I had the pleasure of making a new D6B owner happy today. He practically “stole” this D6B and wanted it scooped up when we could access the hay field it was parked at. Angelo is keeping the family tradition up by adding this to his fleet of yellow iron. It is a 37A that someone converted to a wide 44A. Perfect grousers along with a turbo that spools up quick. Nothing like getting paid to drive/haul someone’s tractor for them!
I got to snap a photo of a cute little D2; I might have to swing by another day and inquire about re-homing it. JM

yes it is nice to be able to cover some of the rego and insurance costs on the toy transport. hence why i want to find a classic prime mover and low loader or body truck so we can have it on special interest registration (it's cheaper than full rego but is restricted to display events and trips to the mechanic or get tires fitted etc) and have it as part of the display too.

Juiceman, that is one nice Unit, I wish there were more like that over here in Aus, my family has a transport company here, nothing as tidy and chromed like it.
cheers

because of our tighter length and width restrictions in aus we wouldnt have a prime-mover with that length chassis. hence why cab overs are popular here with most large companies as pallet length equals profit.also why many use day cab trucks(no sleeper) particularly on the east coast. that is a well presented little float though.

there was one company based in Brisbane that did heavy haulage who was obsessed with the shiny paint and chrome and fancy rims he went broke. cause chrome don't make the money customer service does. well when you buy the top of the range self propelled platform trailer worth around 3milion bucks and the spend another 300 grand painting it in flash paint and putting fancy polished alloy rims it gets expensive fast great while the work comes in but when it dries up. fair enough have a show truck as the pride of the fleet but just the one.

Trainskid88, yes I know who it was that had the flash gear, didn't last to long with the attitude, to big at the end of a major expansion time for mining etc and work disappeared fast so to did a lot of transport companies, we do have a lot of long wheel bases here in the west due to a lot more long distances to travel with nothing in-between similar to anyone travelling to Darwin, we have a regular visit here in town from a peterbuilt, that does fridge run out of Perth daily. Transport gear is not cheap and sadly getting quality behind the wheel is harder now than before, to many drivers not many operators, like you say one off owners surely take pride in there gear and it is great to see it. cheers

my experience is east coast so yeah i dont get to see the triple and quad road trains that central and western australia get. and yes there are many steering attendants. the sad thing is the young cant get experince without a job and cant get the job without experience. this is some the state and federal governments need to help solve the average age of truck drivers is north of 50 and its getting worse. while the freight task is increasing.

Yes very true, I was lucky to learn a lot before I had any license, it is a downward trend for experience and knowledge, sadly most are now not allowed to change tyres nor a light globe, sit on edge of road until someone arrives or limp home if it can, plenty of tilt try and tow truck work for these occasions, generally long wheel base is ok for north west work, they have now over 65m in the north with 4 full length trailers not the quads with a B in-between, on some kind of ore runs on public roads, as you would know the jumbos run off road classic examples were bulk haul and Gulf transport from the territory. Like you say profit before knowledge now is all that matters

linfox instituted that one after one of their drivers changed a headlight bulb got the wires out of order and fried all the electrics in the cab for some reason there wasnt a plug body in that light housing. but most modern stuff is so electronic you need a computer to fix anything. its also due to insurance driver isnt allowed to change a tire as your not a tyre fitter who says you did it properly. the truck dad drives doesnt have a dipstick for the oil it uses a sensor instead.

Same as the Volvo trucks dad has sensors for everything, like all new machines less work for operator and more wires, no knowledge is passed down the line anymore due to insurance coverage to not allow anyone to take friends or family with them for the day, I know I spent most school holidays etc with dad either on crane, loader or in truck with someone going some place, dad would drop me off at a sand pit to strip top soil in morning and send a truck late in afternoon to pick me up after loading it, about 50km away from base, I think I was about 12 /13 at the time
