Hello  All  I've started the project of the brake band replacement.  I have the machine tore down and the mountain of years of built up oil scraped off . How do you remove the band from this point  what has to come apart on the cover ?

Each side brake booster with covers, good time to reseal the steering clutch control housing in the center. Yes clean the deck up good first before disassembly.

I've hit it with the fire hose it's pretty clean now I assume once the band is undone it will pull out or do I have to pull the steering clutch . I'll get a repair manual shortly .

Just back off the adjustment bolt under the small cover with the breather on and remove the oil lines and all the bolts around the top cover and booster, remove control rods, should lift off.

Steering clutch with band comes out , be careful not to let the clutch slip out of the brake drum, you will find an inner and outer row of bolts to undo inside the housing, will need to roll the tractor to undo them with a jack under a grouser.

oooh yea, might, I say might be able to have the drum turned if not cut too deep. Just remove the bolts on each side and lift the assembly out. And drain the oil to clean housing.
