Hope you all bear with me as I am still learning how to motor around in here!!! LOL  Tried to add a few pictures of my Dad's D7E.  Not sure which pictures got loaded but I tried!!!  I think there are 5 pictures in this post.  Will try to add a picture of the little silver plaque with the serial number listed.  It is 2612 - 1 - 1282.  Which this number is not matching up to anything that I can find................    I did read on one site where it said to add a zero to the front if not 8 digits---but this one is already nine digits!!!

 

i think your serial number is on this tag---probably use some acetone to remove the pint

I took plain piece of paper and a lead pencil and did a "shadow shading" of what you have circled in red. The shading will show the words in relief. Genealogists do this on really old cemetary headstones to read what can't be read.

The words I made out from the shading was WARNING OPERATE DIESEL ENGINE AT LOW IDLE SPEED UNTIL NORMAL OIL __?__ __?__ __?__ ON GAGE.

What is the 2612..... label/sticker on? I'm thinking that's for the ROPS

If I were sitting in the seat the little silver plaque would be behind me to the right shoulder and it is on the roof where it comes down so if you would turn around you would look right at it almost. Would be just above your head.  In the first picture you can see two little silver plaques on the bar or frame that runs from side to side.  This plaque is the smaller one with black on it.

I did look for the S/N on the back of the dozer. No number there. And does not look like the paint is indented as if it has been painted over. The other location I have not fouond a number there yet either.

The aircleaner indicates it is a 160hp D7E, as it is a powershift, the Serial Number should start with 48Axxxxxx, I am not so familiar with D7E tractors, however I think the fender mounted hydraulics indicate it is a late series 160, possibly not long before the 180hp tractors, they had fender mounted tanks that I remember that looked a bit different to what is on yours.

The tag you are reading is something to do with the canopy.

Early D7's had those square hyd tanks before the 173B series, The little tags by the compression release lever will read, on the right, "START" and the left one will read "RUN". The early 7's had the serial tags as shown in the pic of the capacity specs, later tractors had the tags as shown plus one on the dash.

Thanks for posting these pictures jellybean. The early D7Es were available with three hydraulic systems, 173, 172 and 171. The early 173 was the front mounted pump and tank(the pump was driven by the front of the crankshaft). The 172 was the fender mounted tank and the pump was driven by the fly wheel. The 172 was later replaced by the173B. The 171 was available to allow hydraulic tilt cylinders on tractors with cable operated blades. The 171 used oil from the transmission pump and did not have a separate tank.
The pictures show that your dad's tractor was originally equipped with a single valve(blade operation only)172 system. The external second valve and tilt cylinder were added later.
I attached pics of my D7E equipped with the two valve 172 system with tilt. Note that the tilt cylinder is mounted on the left side of the blade and the hydraulic lines are routed through the radiator grill.
