pony motor big end bearing mystery

right now a am rebuilding the pony motor for my d6-8U I have started to assemble it and have run into a mystery. the parts book show I need (4) 6B2296.  so I order up 2 6b2296 and 2 of the 6b2298 U size -.020 bearings.  when it went time to assemble I was short one bearing 1/2 I only had 3 and need 4. thinking that I just lost one 1/2  while dry fitting and check clearances to the new used crank I had sourced. I order another 6b-2296 stander size but one 1/2 came in the box. so I have ordered (3) 6-2296 but I have 4 half shells. hope you're following me. thinking I mixed up an undersized one I oped the box to find 2 haves in the 6b2298 box. these are genuine Caterpillar new stock with a new logo one so only a couple of years old box said quantity 1.  did I just get lucky and get a free one in a box side note the undersized ones are wrapped in paper in the box and the standard one is just floating around in the box.

that sounds a bit wierd talk to your dealer they should be able to clarify it for you. normally bearing slippers are purchased as a matched set.

that's what I was under the impression was too that they were a matched set. not sure my dealer will be much help but I can ask. with the parts book show (4) I think I got an extra one free? 96.00 per 1/2 is getting a little rich I would say.

christ. that is getting pricey. i would try a engine reco shop see if some thing from another engine will fit. you never know what is available through ACL bearing company, repco or TRW, hastings etc or the eqivelant american companies.
