I don't think that you can beat a D2 for drilling in grain... low compaction! I used a 12' single disc opener Van Brunt drill for many years and still have it, but I have upgraded to a 12' JD 8300 double disc opener drill a couple of years ago. The old drill is as good as the newer one but for its seed capacity. After all, drilling in grain is simply "controlled spillage". I made a bracket in front of the D2 air cleaner stack and I mount a Trimble GPS screen for the guidelines... marrying two difference technologies from different eras!
