Hi All again,
I had the privilege to look through this book there must of been a set of them for this one is number 3 and looking at the dates on the pages it was printed back in 1933 thereabouts. So I have a few questions,
1 how many in the group?
2 how long where they printed for?

I have never seen or heard of that/those books before but I think it would be a bit of headache trying to publish a book or even a series of books like that today with over 300 different products in their catalogue. Back in 1933, they only had about 8 or 10 products to cater for.

BTW, the FIRST crawler that Ben Holt ever sold, Holt Number 111, went to a farm in either Louisiana or Florida and went with its own parts book. The book contained photos of every part in the machine with shots of each part from every angle necessary to show all the dimensions of that part so that the new owner would be able to make parts for it or have them made as there was NO parts distribution network like today.

that kind of reminds me of the parts book on my koehring crane. each book is specific to it's crane individually and has the original drawing prints from manufacturing.

I believe Cat did a short reprint of those books some time ago, not sure which ones. I have one from 1922, not very common but a few around, they cover more than is the standard parts books, this one is about 4-1/2 inches thick.

a very excited Karen sent me a few pix of said book last Saturday evening. Very impressive I must say.
Our Dealer General Manager had a similar covered book "Selling The Caterpillar" if I recall, that had pix and descriptions of Holt machines and some of the parts that made them up like track rollers with wire wound roller bearings that were sectionised and so on. --Said book was individually numbered with an identifying number by an ink pad type stamp.

I used to regularly borrow it in the days before photocopiers so when he retired he promised to will it to me after telling the family it was to come to me, sadly as often happens his family threw it and many other early books out after he passed. Luckily he did pass on some Cat SRM's when he retired--they are treasured as this man never forgot where he came from after starting at the Dealership as a 16 year old gofer--he treated us Apprentices very well and often had "Special Projects" for us to do.
He always said to us when we called him "Mr. Martyn" "just call me Ted"--we always answered " yes Mr Martyn" as he was so well respected by us all.
In those days, the 1960's, most Department Managers were ex Military and there was discipline down the line--unlike today.

I to would like a copy, as when I was looking through the 600 plus pages and that was only for Vol 3, and what I could work out there was well over 3128 pages (because it this page) so that would make 5 volumes.
