Long time lurker to the site and just signed up. First off I'd like to thank all the helpful members as this is a great place to come for some great knowledge so thanks again.
As the title says I have a 1952 D7 and the other day I noticed a small oil leak coming from the final drive not from the where the oil case is but right where you tighten it up just a bit behind the grease fitting. Does it just need tightening?
I'm a bit of a Cat novice so if someone doesn't understand my question I can post a pic...Thanks in advance.

If you mean down either the inside or outside of the sprocket, it would probably be worth tightening the bearing adjustment if you can. You can also take a long bar and stick it in between the sprocket and track frame and attempt to shake the sprocket back and forth. It is easier to do properly with that side jacked up to take the weight off.
Tightening the bearings properly will require the special wrench and a long cheater pipe. You might be able to help with a sledge and drift on the adjuster nut. Remove the lock first!
If this doesn't make sense, maybe you should post a picture. We like pictures anyway!

You have three possible candidates. If the oil/leak is near the grease fitting it may be a leaking cover plate gasket or the cover is loose.
If it's coming from the inside of the bearing block assembly you may be getting grease past the inner seal that holds the grease and keeps the dirt out of the out board track frame bushing. (cause may be over greasing)
If it's at the out board face of the large adjuster nut, there is a cork seal in the end of the bearing holder that butts up against the adjuster nut that may have lost it's sealing ability and may or may not stop if you tighten the bearing adjustment.

Thanks for the replies...here is a pic of the area I'm talking about. The picture from under the final drive is a bit blurry but I believe you can see what I'm talking about.
I also included a few pic of my machine....its been alot of fun.

It's a little hard to tell but that one looks more serious to me as a leaking outboard bellows seal. If the leak is coming from behind the guard next to the sprocket, that's it for sure.
