My 9K needs to be pull started because the pony is FUBAR and the steering is imposable to turn at this temp, Would it help if I disconnected the power assist to turn the front tires? Or am I barking up the wrong tree here? I do not think the kingpins are seized but it has been a few year since it has moved. I have a short snow covered runway to try to pull start it but a sharp turn to enter the roadway.... It is cumbersome to pull the 9K back an forth to pull start. I'm trying to find an easier way to turn the front grader tires to get on the road so I can pull start it or just pull it a 1/2 mile home.

Jim is in Los Vegas, ♦️♣️😁♥️♠️, it's 0*F here and Jim said the 9K needs to run to steer and the last time she didn't want to even pull start... fuel, filters and injectors I suspect.
Chain up the 8T and just tug it home ... naww I'm Irish but my luck is mostly Scottish; so I'll just call a wrecker.

Gazing at the Parts Book for the 9K2894 to 9K9999 Form UE032970 I see five (5) Hyd booster types so my question would be hard to answer without more information.. Thanks for looking.

when i had a 9K serial 807 it had the same steering assist that yours has. with the engine not running you should have the same steering power as if the unit wasn't there. un hooking it shouldn't help at all.

I agree with Bursitis, that is just a Behlen steering assist unit. It is straight thru with no assist.

Hi FD,
the power assist you pictured is not one we saw down under--after market boosters here were mostly Vickers or Rivinius units.
The traditional way of steering a grader before power boost became available was to lean the steer wheels over towards the direction you wish to steer.
In fact it was well known on long drives between jobs etc. that you sat back and steered using this method only for keeping the machine straight on a straight road.
Leaning the front wheels when bringing new Graders back to the Dealer from Cat Of Australia to turn tight suburban corners used to be fun to scare the heck out of unsuspecting motorists driving next to us--imagine being next to the steer wheels when they suddenly seemed to falling over onto their car.
Aahh, the good old days!

Yeah, that picture of the steering assist is not on my 9K it is a leftover from me doing some research on 9K's from a purple auction site a year or so ago and I got sidetracked when uploading the pic. sorry ...here is a pic of my power assist ...
It's a later model 9K9320, 679 from the end of the series. 9K9999
but the power steering looks more like that of the 7T to me
or am I just full of it?

Ha Ha That's funny there Edy B. I might wait for a warmer day n grab a weed burner and heat up the front end grease n the 30w
in the steering box (I don't know) n booster. Everybody get ready to invest in 10w and 30w Delo. The engine, trany n gear boxes need winterized on the 8T and 9K...... $98.50US for 5 USgal of 10w... Not bitching just an observation.
What would be the best oil type for boost steering ??? 10w work???? Type F ATF
? Hyd AW32??? avg. temp 0 to 20*F
Went out a bit ago and started the 8T at 1*F
no either, not plugged in, the pony took three er four tries (starter needs a new belt). The pony heated for a good five minutes and another three minutes with diesel under compression but no fuel to help heat the head. Oil psi came up a bit slower today but holds steady at 32psi once on step. When I popped open the fuel the D318 fired up in less than one full revolution. I'll put up the video later

That's the same style of power assisted steering as fitted to Australian built early 12E 21F series graders, cant say I ever tried to steer without motor running. Would it be possible to jack up the front, get the tyres off the ground and see if you can turn the steering without the weight on them?
