Fix your brakes, you will be much happier. How about your hand/parking brake? They usually help stop machines with only single brakes I call them; I only road my 12 two miles from the house to the main yard, and never comfortable even with functioning brakes. As many are aware, the brakes are not the best on a motor grader.
During my quest to purchase a grader, the gentleman that assisted in the sale/purchasing spelled out anything and everything he knew about my 8T15911; his last comment was "oh by the way, the brakes DO work". At that point I said SOLD!
That is a very nice looking grader you saved; looks like you were in the right place/right time! JM
The park brake/handbrake is frozen. I’m assuming the cable is full of rust. I have a buddy who rebuilt the master cylinder on his 12E and said it wasn’t too hard. I’ll have to do the same I’m sure!

I had some time to get it into the shop and put a few new parts on it, give it a full grease job, check all the oils, and make a list of things to fix. I installed a new precleaner bowl, exhaust from the manifold up, and inner and outter air filters. I do have one bad u joint in the shaft for the circle drive. The seals are out on the splitter box between the front lift and wheel lean. The input shaft plate for the wheel lean is cracked and so the wheel lean case has some water in it. So I am in search of part number 2F79990, I believe it says. Also, I used it for an hour or two to shape and grade my driveway at home, and it seems the water pump is bad. The engine and top of the radiator were hot, but the fan wasn't blowing any warm air, and the bottom tank of the radiator was ice cold. Temp gauge doesn't work, so that's another thing I need to fix.

As per Rome's comment. Some parts are very limited in availability. I knew of one local had engine trouble (I think engine parts are around). So clutch was removed with engine. Back a few years when scrape was the go to for dropper's, they hauled the clutch off. The owner had no luck in finding any used housings. I know he had given up before he was killed in a accident. The chasey might still be around but widow has gone off the deep end so I am sure it would be a you load on a truck and take it all deal. But may be in China already.
Graders and scrapers are harder to find old parts as not as many farmers parked them out back. Contractors run out of storage in hidden places and things seem to go away, generally meaning scrape.

Just curious, what brake fluid do you guys put in slow-speed drum brakes now? I've seen enough ruined brake parts from DOT3 to last me several lifetimes. I got a hot deal pn some DOT5 silicon fluid that worked good in some systems--my Didge PU and my '48 Jeep, but it ate all of the rubber out of my Studebaker PU.
All good advice gratefully accepted. Thanks
Jack
