I am trying to help out a fellow ACMOC member but me and the new search engine are not getting along very well. all I looking for is the torque valves for the head gasket and the fireing order for a 1929 Ten.

From the Bob LaVoie book:
"With the exception of the 2 ton, all of the gas Caterpillar tractors have a firing order of 1-3-4-2".
I have never seen a specific torque value for the heads on any of the early tractors. Attached is a scan from Caterpillar form 30946, giving torque values for various "common nuts, bolts and capscrews".

I have that book and used that firing order info on my gas 40, its wrong for the larger gas cats, I believe the 30 and larger are different.

Have you ever seen a torque pattern for the earlier Cat head bolts, i.e. Cat 20 (4200G) and a Cat 30?

Head tightening sequences ---
I was always taught to work from the middle of the head toward the ends and do so in incremental amount of torque. Working the head at least two times.
A "trick" for many of those old engines and yes - we used the old head gaskets many times. Paint them with aluminum paint. Make a big difference. Another used heavy grease.
RE: Firing Orders --- if you can see/watch the valve train. rotate the crankshaft through the four strokes. Starting with #1 on TDC both valves closed. Next cylinder with both valves closed will be the second in firing order, and so forth. That is getting back to the basics. (Four cycle engines)

agree with CTS on head tightening sequence: start in middle and work outward to the ends....in 3 equal steps
always dropping GOLD, all you have to do is just pick it UP !

its a rough rule and it work on most is start in the middle and work out in a spiral in around three steps work well if no specific method.
cts mentiond aluminium paint anther that works very well is VHT coppercote it specifically for that purpose. as a dressing on heads manifolds and there gasketing. you can also use hylomar which is a acl gaskets product. and oil gaskets a old trick is grease allows you to remove cover plates without destroying the gasket. even grease on its own will work to get you home.
on a 4 cycl 4 stroke one is on tdc when the valves of 4 are "rocking" most 4 cyl use a 1342 firing order. as 4 stokes work in pairs the same trick works with 6 and 8 cylinder engines too. which ever cylinder fires 3rd is the one to watch.
