That is a Cat Sixty Five crawler but I have no idea what that engine might be. I'd just about bet that it has had a heart transplant at some stage in its life. When I first looked at the right side of the engine, I thought 'Jimmy' diesel, but I have never seen a 'Jimmy' Diesel with all the clutter of air cleaners that is on that engine on the left side. Still, I have been known to be wrong and I don't claim encyclopaedic knowledge of the breed.

BTW, was that another Sixty Five standing alongside this one in one of your photos?

With that screamer on there it ought to be the fastest cat around. Don't forget your ear plugs:D

That engine also has some similarities to some Mercedes Benz diesels that I have seen and it was a Benz diesel that Cat engineers used as a model for the first Cat diesels that went into the Cat Sixtys back in 1931-32.

So when are you going back to clear up the mystery? Or do YOU already know the answer?

I think surely a 71 jimmy but sure looked odd at first.I think we are just not used to seeing one mounted that high which makes the air box covers seem odd, and then the 3 pac low profile air cleaners seem odd too but the wide exhaust runners,water pump location,and cast in gussets above the pan rail are very characteristic of the jimmy and are not present on the 6-110 series.I looked at pics of the Harnischfeger 2 stroke uniflow diesel and no way is it close to what we see.

I think that it is a 6-71 Detroit even though the 3 air cleaners are odd the blower on the engine is right under the triple filter housing. The 6 plates on the exaust side are a dead give away to me. Just my 2 cents. Jason

Those look like old oil bath aircleaners, possible from some railroad application. That could be a 6-110 DETROIT. I don't see a fuel pump on the end of the blower where it should be on a 6-71.

You're right OZ, and it's in situations like this that I can see justification for abortion.Ya know what I mean, if they had just put a pony motor on it and painted the engine yellow

I think I'd be fairly certain in saying that the engine is not a GM 6-110.
The 6-110 has a distinctive combined manifold and muffler, that was peculiar to that model.
Take a look at the 6-110 in these pics of the old A-C HD20's on the Van Natta Bros website, and you'll see what I mean ..
