Until the cobble connection gets knocked off then you lose both the transmission/torque converter and bevel gear.

that is a major downside to that method. one point to remember the oil levels in most old cat engines and trans had to be checked at idle speed are you sure you have a problem why chase something that might not be there do more testing.

Agreed OM, not something I'd like to try.
Trainzkid is spot on. Make sure the levels are actually fluctuating. Both compartments are sensitive to incorrect levels on the dipsticks if machine is not set level.

yes it costs money but one method is to do a fluid change drain and refill the compartments to there correct levels and with the correct fluids for your temp range. i always do this when i acquire another piece of gear unless its brand new that way you know its correct. the operators manual or serviceman's reference will have the correct procedures and volumes. then work the machine for a hr and check the levels once cooled down if they have increased then you have a leak between compartments.

Hi Team,
if oil transfer is suspected then our Dealership used to have fluorescent dyes available to add to an oil compartment suspected of losing oil.
The dye is sensitive to Ultra Violet which I think can also be called Black light.
Cheap UV or Black Light torches are available these days to fluoresce any of the additive that may have transferred from the compartment that is suspected of losing oil to the compartment that is suspected of gaining oil.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

the compound edb is thinking of is called fluoroscene powder it comes in a couple of colours but it glows in uv light even sunlight but with a black light it really shows up.
also called plumbers leak detection dye normally green or red green would work best with oil.
note it will stain cloathing and hands so wear gloves. it is also slightly toxic so wash hands well and don't breath the dust.
note after use the system will need a oil change.
