Great result, that's the best time, seeing and hearing a long dead Cat firing up for the first time, enjoy giving her a good flogging pulling something appropriate now!
All the best
Mike

Yesterday I got the pinion catches adjusted perfectly and also tightened up the packing on the waterpump so it stopped dripping when sitting, but so it still drips occasionally when running. I took it for a drive and washed most of the dust off it and the 87 year old owner was absolutely thrilled with the result!

I don't know if you watch the forum Toby @Sasquatch but this old 5J which I resurrected last year has the factory fitted original curved bumper you are looking for, for 5J1113.

Hi Mark, post the dimensions and he can make a reproduction. Actually I wouldn't mind them too as I have a 3J that I'm setting up ag-wise. Not sure if I can manage it because it will have a #44 on the front but it would be good to have some "OEM-looking" protection on the front
Cheers,
Neil

In preparation for a the local vintage farm machinery show this weekend I gave this old D2 a good clean, and had a great conversation with the elderly owner. He prompty went an got his old photo album and I was able to scan a few pictures which I have included here:

These ones were taken with my smartphone, and aren't as good. Awesome to see some of the history of this old tractor recorded. Apparently this tractor was absolutely (and literally) ground breaking for this farm, turning what was once unproductive hill country into usable farmland:

What a fantastic story and history-all the way to today, having her run again. Machinery transforms! I noted the track trailer-second photo of the post. Any story on that? Looks like a single axle. The gentleman was certainly proud of the machine considering the photos he took and kept, while working.
Anyway, nicely done Markds3-thank you for making the effort to get the d2 rolling coal again and posting the photos and story behind it.
Keep safe-

That is way cool! Having the photos makes the tractor much more fun to own. Did the previous owner keep any service/repair logs on the machine too? I had a KW truck that the owner/drivers kept meticulous records of each thing they did;even had notes like a diary about tough trucking season, etc. add to it when people actually wrote in cursive and it was very legible. Hard to keep from reading.Thank you for sharing. JM

Thanks Juiceman! Just to be clear, I don't actually own the tractor. It's so imporant to the history of the farm and area, that the family say they will never sell it. I'm just good friends with them, I cut wood on their land, and store my 5U there too. I offered to get the tractor running again and am dispalying at the show on thier behalf. I'll certainly ask re the service logs, and it wouldn't surprise me if he has them somewhere.I found a history of the farm, which has stayed in the same family right from when NZ was first colonised, online. The D2 features prominently in it, on pages 16 and 17. You can download the PDF here:
