Hey no worries. Your just trying to help! It's still relevant. Thank you to everyone. This site is very friendly and helpful. Here's some pics of what I'm up against. It's not looking so good. The steering clutch yokes seem to be stuck in the released position. Like maybe someone had the sticks tied back when it got some water intrusion.

So both steering levers when pulled all the way back. Just barely come in contact with the adjuster. If I put a prybar between the yoke and case I can get the left side to move a bit. It feels like proper spring tension. But the right side the yoke seems to be at the end of it's travel. Not sure if these adjustment screws are at the beginning of adjustment or the end.

That clutch compartment is still all wet so if you get at it the rust will still be soft. If you can't get to it, you might as well fill it with water again until you're ready.

I can't say that I have seen a more rusty master clutch... Couple the rusty master clutch with the probable steering clutch issues, I suggest that you evaluate the starting engine and the diesel engine before going much further. If the the starting and/or diesel engines are not functioning well then you should consider salvaging the undercarriage which appears extraordinarily good condition and purchasing another D2 and using your D2 as the donor machine. $200 for that undercarriage alone is the real bargain with your machine.

Gave the pony a shot of ether and gave it a pull. She fired momentarily. When I unloaded it I pushed it forward with the backhoe whal in gear. The main engine turns over freely. I'm pirty confident in the engine. The previous owner said it ran 3 years ago but the clutch was stuck at that point.

That seems like a pretty solid tractor. If it was mine I would forget about trying all the different magic liquid rust cures and pull the engine and final drives and fix them correctly. Even if you get it to "work" it won't last and could cause other damage, Everything is readily available to do the repairs needed and a spare parts tractor can be worth its weight in gold.

Why is it to me, that D2s are so notorious for moisture damage? I am thinking orchard tractors fare worse, the pivot shafts for steering, etc., act as a wick if left exposed to the elements. Shedding or tarping is a must. Has anyone ever tried to place some drying agent/desiccant in a tractor to absorb the moisture? The D4 I had rescued from under a walnut tree sat for 15 plus years I am guessing, and its internals were perfect. Not a spec of rust anywhere. I never asked the neighbor if he used some magic potion to keep it dry.

Just a update on this. I spent most of my weekend on it. I got the pony fuel tank cleaned out, pony engine fired up. Found the pinion drive was seized up. Pulled the pony and got that freed up. I also stuck my pressure washer down in the main clutch cavity. I cleaned that up quite a bit. And with a long drift and a bit of finesse I was able to adjust the clutch. I backed it way off and everything started to move. After firing up the main engine I was able to get the main clutch freed up and working. The steering clutches are still way out of adjustment but I was able to actuate the left side with a big pry bar. So it is free also. The right side is probably the biggest issue. The pack seems excessively thick. I'm assuming due to rust jacking? Or possibly someone installing a incorrect amount of clutch discs. I'm not sure on that. But the yoke has very little travel if any before it hits the main case. I haven't tried adjusting the linkage yet but when manipulated with a bar it moves very little. Ether side lever will not come in contact with the yoke when pulled all the way back. After work I'll try to adjust the linkage but I'm afraid there's probably not even adjustment there to do any good.

Well done on getting the motors running and the main clutch sorted, those steering clutches will need pulling in my opinion, fortunately new parts are available from General Gear up in Idaho, John there is great to deal with, I bought new steering clutch parts from him for my D2 5U, and did my D2 4U steering clutches too, it's a big job, not something you could do in a afternoon, but not rocket science, you will need a good puller and pusher.
