Couple Question
1. How Much Lining Is To Be On The Brake Band? I Have Less Than A 1/8 Inch
2. I Can Turn The Adjusting Nut 1/16 Of A Turn Clock Wise And That Is It. Book Says There Is A Lock Nut To Loosen I Have Looked Top Bottom And Side Trying To Find This Nut, Where Is It?

The brake shoes new are 1/4 in. thick and at 1/8" or less your probably touching or are about to touch the rivets.

The lock nut & brake band support screw is underneath the tractor below the brake drum and should be backed off and reset as part of the adjustment process as described in your manual. Very common to find these screws broken off or missing as they are pretty vulnerable to damage in that location.

It is possible to change out the brake bands on the basic tractor without lifting the top cover (nasty job) but I'm not sure if any of the loader frame would be in the way.

What is the serial number of your unit?

I have changed brake bands on a 933 and 951, just remove the top covver bottom cover for access,the anchor pin may be hard to remove ( made up a slide hammer). On my 933 I had to remove the hydraulic suction pipe.As this was over the right hand top cover,

The 12A bands are a swine of a job to change but they can be done, the linkage anchor is bolted to a small cover each side just ahead of the main steering clutch cover and there is also an anchor pin to pull out each side located just ahead of the sprocket, like a 933. The main problem is you need to be built like a snake to get down in there. There are no access covers in the bottom like the late 933 and the 951 is easy in comparison.
Remember, the 955 12A is based on the 'U' series D4 back end.

DId I understand you correctly, that the 955 12A is build on the D4 7U tractor?? Does this imply some?? parts are interchangeable??
Question; My D4 7U 12358 (HT4 loader) presently has 5 double flange bottom rollers per side. Parts book calls out double flange but neglects to identify quantity of rollers per side. The servicemen's book identifies (starting from idler to sprocket) 1. double; 2. single; 3. single; 4. double
and 5. single; What is the correct configuration of bottom rollers?? I realize the owner/operator can install what ever he wants.

Hi Frank,
Yes, there is interchangeability between the HT4 and 955 loaders and the regular D4, at least up to the late serial numbers when the 955 12A changed to the D330 engine after serial number 12A 5795.
In fact, most of the goodies like large front idlers, 5-roller track frames, in seat pony starting, hydraulic track adjusters etc. used on the 7U were pirated from the loaders. Still pays to watch the part numbers though as things started to change as the 955 grew in serial numbers.

Attached suggested Cat arrangement of track rollers.

With all the turning you do with a loader, might be better to start with double flange as suggested.

Looked up the arrangement of a 955 60A (six rollers) and they used single front and rear with the rest double flange.
