I was wondering what it would take to install a winch on a d-4 7u that does not have a pto shaft on it? My machine just has a draw bar no pto. Do the older hyster d4e winches have the shaft made to them or is it easy to add a pto?

D4 7U would use the Hyster 4 or 4N winch and these winches have the shaft and coupler that go into the D4 R&P housing and mount to that little PTO shaft. You do not need a an external PTO.

The D4 or D4N winch mounts to the same studs that now hold the brackets that support the drawbar and the drawbar is still usable after the winch is bolted on as it bolts to the bottom of the winch. I'm not sure of the weight but I think it's around 1200-1500 lbs.

very 1st thing i did when i got the ol D4 12 yrs back was change winch lube. out poured a pile of needle bearings. well that winch has always backspooled hard and its gettin harder. can drive it fine and the thing will dead drag8000 lb easy. i mostly used it for a skidder, now i just run it couple times a year .anyway pokin thru dealer lit i found pics of guts. the reverse idler bearings is dual needle on abolt on shaft. now when a fellow give me a spare d4 hyster i explored some and found the reverse idler mounted to a knob cast in. so i guess i cant swap parts.anyone had reverse idler problems and where would you get them needle bearings.had lots of fun pushing dirt this a.m.

Is it the D4 or D4N model winch?
Looked up the Hyster part number for the bearings (#59230) on the D4N but could not get a bearing interchange. You may have to take it apart to get a good number off the cage/race.
