Hi Guys,

I'm interested in a CAT V250 LT. Serial number 24V139.

I have looked in the Performance Handbook etc. but can't determine build date. CAN anyone out here help me, ..... assume it to be early 80's ??

They went in production in 1973 so maybe this will help and as low a SN as yours it can,t be too far from that.

The V250 is basically a Towmotor design, and they are a very good forklift, extremely robust and built with common parts.

Towmotor was founded in 1919, and Caterpillar purchased Towmotor in 1965.
Towmotor built only Tow Tractors until 1933, when the first Towmotor forklift was built.

For many years, the Towmotors were sold with both Towmotor and Caterpillar names on them, such was the towering reputation of Towmotor.
In the late 1980's Towmotor was renamed Caterpillar Industrial, then in 1992 .. Caterpillar and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries merged their forklift operations into a new company named MCFA (Mitsubishi Caterpillar Forklift America) based in Houston, TX.
Cat own 20% of MCFA, MHI own 70%, and Mitsubishi Corp, own 10%.

The 24V series was built from 1973, your S/N of 24V139 indicates 1975 year of build.

Here is a great old antique Towmotor forklift website, with one 1920 Towmotor Tow Tractor located in the Maritime Museum in Brisbane Australia, probably being the oldest Towmotor in existence in complete condition.
