Pulled this steering clutch when I first dragged dozer of the woods.
It was stuck, got it freed up after disassembling it and cleaning the discs. Fortunately it comes out from above but it's a HEAVY BUGGER. Have used the dozer quite a bit on the farm, but worked it a little extra hard today and smoke came out from the right side under the seat. Would no longer turn left. No clattering like metal parts coming apart or anything just smoke and to hot to touch the clutch assembly. How bad? How Much $ ?? Are clutches available?? Looks like Part #'s 1A3987 (discs 24) and
2F8621 (Plates 24). Could it be anything else? Adjustment seems fine. Not partially engaged or anything. Need parts cheap!!! Help.

The stering cluch should not smoke its metal on metal its should be the brake or oil in stering cluch housing and the stering cluch slipp.

The 4R used the lined type disks and surely would smoke if slipping.....along with the same results from a dragging brake band except the brake band would not cause loss of steering.
Replacement type discs are available from
