Hi JRSJUNK

You ask what year your CAT D6, serial No 8U 4852 was built, it was built during the CAT's 1951 production year. there were 11,045 8U's built.

My son in laws brother is up from Al. so we all got together for a cookout this evening and him and his wife and daughter live in Huntsville Al. but I see you are quite a bit south of there. He was transfered down there from the Tobyhanna army depot here in NE Pa.so I was telling them that you lived down in Al. but wasn,t sure just where till I got home and looked it up on the map. They brought their fold down trailer and are staying at a camp ground near by his brother.

Hope it is considerably cooler in your neck of the woods while they are there!

I don't know for sure, but being in Huntsville, I would guess with the Army, he's at Redstone Arsenal next to the Space and Rocket Center. If you're ever by that way, the S & R ctr is well worth a stop and spend a half day looking at everthing.

The US Army set up the former German rocket scientists led by Werner von Braun there following WW II and their work became the basis of the US space programs at least in booster and propulsion development. Last time I was there, I had my two oldest children with me and they didn't want to spend the time I would have spent there.

It's always good to get some good outdoor cooking over the 4th of July! I'm already having to slow down on the food to make it through these 3 days. We fired up the smoker and did a Boston butt for the family yesterday. My sister in law is vegetarian:( Man, what a cross to bear! especially on Independence day! Not for me!

There was some rain in the area yesterday evening so that delayed the local fireworks show until nearly 10 pm, but it was a good one in the end and was cool enough sitting out in lawnchairs waiting.
