I was just pulling out, pickup and trailer with complete 5J on back was pulling in. They beat me to the scale.
My wife said, "go over there and ask about it". But, I've got six tractors working on already and can't get to them like I would like. My 5U is a good runner already.
Sometimes I don't wanna think about what is going through there.
My 40's Dodge trucks went on a nice ride over there last October. I ran out of time and couldn't give them away.

Here's my experience with A&S. D4 7U 43xxx direct electric start, 5 roller track frame, orchard model with tool bar blade. Worn from one end to the other, shot undercarriage throughout, rollers, pads, sprockets, stuck frictions, stuck motor, stuck main clutch but it was all there.
You get all that for $4000.00 As much as I wanted to save that tractor, there is no way I would pay that in that condition.
I know a person on the front line and got it down to $3,300.00 still couldn't see it.

Unfortunately I am afraid our old Cats are worth a premium price for scrap. They are made of a high quality cast steel. Cat was a forerunner in metalurgy way back in the early days. The local scrap yard might not be paying more but the steel mill in China or where ever it ends up is probably paying a premum as a high stregnth additive for their tin can soup.
My son took a L 20 in to a scrap yard in San Francisco, he said they put it aside to keep company with a 9U D6 until they figure out what to do with it. There was a guy on here that reported getting $9500 for a D8 from a steel mill in the east. That is about $400 per ton.

In a conversation at the BSOT I was told that you could get $700/ton delivered to the port of Long Beach, Ca.
Would appear the local scrappers are making close to 100% profit on the iron if what I was told is true:eek:

Well,
On pondering my first thought, Here is probably what I missed when glancing at the D2 rolling by:
1.Pins & bushings totally wore out.
2. Steering clutches stuck
3. Rods stuck thru the block.
4. Big cracks in the main block and pony engine from the big freeze 20 years ago or so.
5. Radiator tanks, same.
6. Transmission ate a gear, which caused the case to get cracked.
7. all rollers totally wore out.
8. Pivot shaft wore out from being overlubricated.
9. Fuel injector pumps wore out from running without filters.
OK, now I feel a little better. One of my JD books shows a B on a sidehill, no front tire and really a parts tractor. The caption says, " just put a little gas in it and give it a push--I bet it will start".
Well, we know better, don't we.
Fix the fixable ones.

Stopped by A&S, hoping for parts from the 5T.
I did see bits and pieces of the T5 and another dead cat sticking out from a pile of twisted unreconizable remains of too much old equipment China bound.
The D4 is still there and still 3,300 dollars. I was told that smaller cats are there only 2 to 4 hrs before they are shreded and the bigger cats are held for as much as a week. Was told that one really needs to know that a cat is comming in to be there in time. Kinda maks me want to park on Blackie Rd and head them off

I was down there on Friday June 27 at about noon time and saw a cat that I thought to be gas. It looked to be possibly an R2 but maybe it was a D2. I was too busy and had to get out of there. The line of people taking scrap in is almost out the door.

It is the same in Australia folks, Chinese are paying close to $US800/ton for steel now and trucks are leaving farms with anything and everything steel including antique cars and tractors. One day, there will be none left out there...
