Please can anyone tell me the part number for a fan belt for R2 4J970 SP.
Would this be the same as for a 5J D2 ?
I'd also need the firin g order, as all the HT leads are missing of the tractor I'm restoring.
Thanks.

I just replaced the belt on my D2 5U. It was interchanged to a Gates belt I think. I will take a look at the part number from the orignal (yes I could still read the number) and see if it is the same as what your looking for. I will not be at the shop until after the week end.

All Cat 4 cyl. engines normally fire 1-3-4-2. I have been picking my brain trying to remember the Co. that makes (or did) belts for Cat and they are sold at automotive places but the way they are made makes them the best belt I ever saw on the market. The Gates was mentioned but they were in my opinion a very poor belt for long life. The one that Cat uses was rubber with an overlay of cord and the way they were made makes them strong long lastng belt.If I remember what brand they are I,ll post it later.

Thanks Timbo and SJ, I appreciate the response. I have a local supplier (not a CAT dealer, but a repair shop) who has several original CAT belts labelled up with the part numbers, it's just that we don't have an R2 manual to get the part number from. I have a D2 parts book for my 5J, where the part number of the fan belt is 6B1039. I was hoping someone could tell me if the R2 is the same (I suspect it will be).
The R2 is quite a rare tractor, especially, I understand in US (I'm a UK based Chapter 2 member), and I'm very keen to restore this machine. Unfortunately no luck obtaining a parts book yet.
Here are some pictures....

I was in the shop this morning and found the old belt. It was either a 5F7676 or a 5F7076 hard to make out. I replaced with the following, GATES TR30484 GREEN STRIP II Belt 22A1230. This is on a D2 5U tractor. Hope this helps. Tim
