Old Magnet,
Didn't see you at the show, but I heard you were there. I probally could have walked around for four days and would have not seen you.
I saw a Cat 15-a for sale. What are the differences from a 14-A ? -glen

Hi Glenn,
If I were to get any closer I would have been run over by a shovel, scraper or dozer
. Was there all three days but only saw you on equipment or at a distance.
14A....oil clutch...direct drive
15A....torque converter (fuel charged) and its own clutch.
Enjoyed watching you (and hearing) the equipment getting a work out:D
Understand Herb was there but never did see him either.

Would a !5-A be good in a pull scraper...#80 scraper application?-glen
Yes Herb came up to the show. don't know how long he lasted in the heat.

In its day it probably would have been fine (evolved into power shift) but now I'd be inclined to go with the wet (triple disc) clutch come repair time but I'd certainly be open to other opinions:)
The down side on the torque was things tended to get hot as the fuel tank level dropped and you had a real challenge on your hands when you flat ran out of fuel;)

Thanks Old Magnet,
It sounds like a 14-A is still the one:D . You should have asked for a 660 run:p . I was suprised how well it ran. What a HOG.-glen

Maybe OM or someone with experiance will help me with this. I have the opportunity to get a 14 A before it goes to scrap. Along with being opposed to putting the torch to anything yellow, will the oil clutch fit in my 2U17133 sp? The 2U has the jonson bar transmission.
You folks that put on the BSOT really out did yourselves. I had no idea that that many Holt and Best tractors still existed. Thanks for all the hard work and fantastic three days.

I wouldn't want to claim to be the last word here:rolleyes:
but I would say no. The 14A is a triple driven plate unit and the 2U is a double driven plate unit. Similar styles but I doubt they would interchange.

Thanks OM. The 14A is located in northern Oregon and when I get the price and more details I will post it on the buy/ sell site. May have to go look at it myself. I have a U-blade, angle, streght, and brush for the 2U but I don't think they will fit the 14A if it is a running machine. Probably wouldn't fit if it is not a runner. Thanks OM.
