Found my dad's Vietnam pictures today and had a picture or two of these babies. He was in the army engineers and was tasked at keeping all of the armies dozers and other machines running. He said he never got to shoot at anybody, in fact was on KP duty in basic when they where on the rifle range. But he was shot at many a times while working on machines in the field. I will have to ask if he would write a story for the magazine.

I was in vietnam68 and 69.a few times they flew a d4 into the bush to clear a spot for a base camp.choppers would drop our recon off first and we would do guard duty for the operator.i thought at the time that was good duty compared to crap we got into.tell your dad “welcome home”for me.thanks

Rodten,

By all means, have your dad work up a story for our magazine. We need good material and also need to capture the history that he could share with us. I have an article giving details of how to do that in the coming May/June issue. Yes, and tell him "welcome home" for us.

OIH got part of his story straight. As Navy Seabees, we had MRS (Mississippi Road Service) scrapers with screaming Jimmys. I was in the Da Nang area '69-'70. The Army got all the good Cat stuff, Air Force Allis-Chalmers and we got IHCs with a few Cat 112s thrown in. Only saw a few of the Cat 830s over there. Too much snow for me to make any guess at what is under it.

Ronm,

Whoa! I said we HAD them I did not say I LIKED them! Besides that would not fit in my backyard. Ours were larger and probably newer than that in your picture. I have not seen one since I left the Navy in 1970.

Yeah, somebody on another forum told me I should save it, & I told him I have enough projects to last me the rest of my life...it would make a hell of a float puller for the parade, though... :cool2:

Hi, Jan M.

Unquote.

That sounds like the classic excuse from a man under 'petticoat government'. LOL.

Wottz wrong with parking it where the D8 is parked? Or is that reason that your backyard is too small?

On the other hand, it would make a helluva mailbox stand in the FRONT yard. And reduce the amount of lawn or garden that needs tending.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Deas,

The D8 is orphaned. It stays on the museum grounds 25 miles away and can never come "home." Home already holds a FIFTEEN, (2) TWENTYS and my 1966 IHC R-185 flatbed truck. You just have to know when enough is enough!
