im not an expert , but i believe it is more of a road grader. it has rippers on the rear and an adjutible front blade @ two angles. i believe it is 1960s vintage!
it belonges to my dad, he gave me his 1936 rd4, after he bought it, and says
the RD4 has twice the power of the 1010 thanks Bill.

I had a 1010 JD wheel tractor years ago. It had the most troublesome engine JD ever built. We could not keep water from collecting in the distributor for some reason, had to keep a couple extra caps drying out on the heating stove so we could swap them, sometimes two or three times in a day. Switching to electronic ignition helped, but it would still get wet and crossfire in the cap. I never saw anything like it, wa s glad to be rid of it. Totally unlike any other JD I ever ran. I hope you have a lot better luck than I did.

The 1010 engine isn't all that big, probably smaller than my D2 I'd say. RD4 should leave it in the dust.

I ahve a 1010 crawler/loader/backhoe. Yes it's under powered, yes the sleeve deck design engine stinks, yes the finals are weaker than they need to be. That being said, it's pretty easy to work on, parts are availble, JD dealerships abound and they are okay for farm/homeowner type stuff.

My garandfather took one in on a bad debt,My father ended up with it. 1010 was a lot better than J D 40C it replaced. We mostly used it for finishing up around subdivisions or an occasional cellar for an addition.
We did have some final drive problems- but have always felt it was from abuse and neglect of prior owner. As I remember it 5 gals of gas in the morning was good for the day- I guess I am trying to say- we were mostly rehandling material so i do not remember it as being under powered. We had good luck- just outgrew it.
Modern it is not.
