Finlay got the poney running and it was sling oil out from around the front seal. while taking the pulley off noticed a lot of end play in the crank. how much end play should there be? Also where is going to be the best place to find parts. gaskets, seals, and main bearings.
thanks for your help

The spec sheet I have calls for .025" end play but doesn,t give a maximum but you don,t want too much so it,s as loose as a goose. It sounds like the crank has a groove worn in it where the seal rides on it so you may have to correct that. There is thin quick wear sleeves that are availble and they work well to install over the worn are so you could try one of those and a new standard seal to correct it. Make sure your breather is not plugged up too on the start. engine and not too much blowby from worn rings and cylinder walls.End play is controlled by the main bearing in the front so it sounds like it,s worn too much to control the end play.I,d think some of the parts are available after market but you may have to go to Cat for some some things like gaskets I,d imagine but someone on here I,m sure will come back as to where you can get parts.

I should have made it more clear as the bearing toward the diesel or opposite end of the flywheel is the one that controls the end play.
