I've got a chance to purchase a 977K series Caterpillar tractor that runs well, but will not power the Rt. track fore or aft. The tractor can be pushed without bind, and brakes seems to work fine with no external oil leakage.
I really don't need a dozer this large but the price can't be beat. I don't know what kind of expense I could be looking at to make it a useable machine, and I don't have a trailer to haul it, (but can easily borrow).
What does this thing weigh? It has an open ROPS, and an 8.5ft. wide bucket of the capacity I do not know.
Thanks,
Rob

I'm thinking that 42,000 lbs is a little light as a 977K maybe weighs more than a D7G and the D7G will weigh 46,000.

A serial number would help. I show an evolution for the K/L as starting at 42,000 lbs, an engine change at 11K3919, weight change at 11K5959 t0 48,500 lbs and bucket change at 11K6696 to 2.75 cu. yds.

I will go by tomorrow and find the serial number. Talked to the retired mechanic that used to maintain it and he says it is a minor fix after the final is torn down. Never worked on a dozer before, but the owner will let me have all the manuals with it. It is still owned by the original purchaser when new but has had many operators.
About 25 tons is all I can haul legally with an acceptable low trailer to borrow when needed.
Thanks again,
Rob
