Just wondering if any body has owned one or what to look for. There is one on an auction tomorrow. Based on a D69U. longer track frames, 7 bottom rollers, oil clutch with a ujoint setup between the clutch housing and the transmission with a band brake for the clutch. This one has very good rails with very little wear on the pins and bushings. Lifetime oil sealed bottom rollers, street pads. Any idea for a value? Book says made from 53-55.
Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim,
The #6/977 are good units. Rugged build and D6U model reliable. Hard to find one that has not been worked to death so if the undercarriage is as good as you say plus the oil clutch it's definately a desireable machine. They are a bit of a beast machine and tough to work on but no different than any crawler loader.

Check the hydraulics out thoroughly as they are somewhat unique to these models....still the vickers type vane pump and controls and the low pressure monster cylinder hydraulics.

Units weigh about 32,000 lbs so even at some of the scrap prices of $200/ton the base value would be $3,200....would expect anything from $5K to $10k for a good unit.....they can do serious work so value might get even higher although there seems to be a glut of machines on the market with the down turn in the economy.

It turned out to look better on the bottom than anything else. The engine had a miss in it and lots of blowby. Also had one steering clutch not working. It brought $5100.00
