17A Serial No ????

Had a post on 4/4/08 about an out of adjustment cable unit in which I posted the Serial No. of a D7 17A. The tag is gone but the stamped number is 14A1701. How can that be? Several people have looked and vote is unanimous that the number is a 14 and not a 17. Serial No. on the engine block is 17A1701. Was there ever any such thing as a 14A D7? Or did someone just stamp it wrong?
Inquiring minds want to know.

No there never was a 17A D8 and only a D7 was 17A. The 17A is a 4 cyl. engine a D339 and the 14A is the 6 cyl. version and are a D342 engine. Maybe someone changed it for who knows why or even was installed wrong at the factory but the answer is, no there never was a 17A D8.
