955 clutch adjustment

More

Just bought my machine a couple months ago a 955 ser 12a7875 electric start, Guessing 58 or 9 model. Anyway, my main drive clutch was hard to lock and oil was milky so I changed it with delo diesel oil- after about an hour of running it got so I could no longer lock it.. I understand to adjust it I have to loosen locks and I can see them through the top hole and turn hub--I also noticed a hole under the bottom side of housing.. Would adjustment be easier through this bottom hole???

I was told of this site about a month ago and have seached archives on 955 items and have read a lot of interesting stuff -- you guys are good..

Usual procedure is to adjust at the top. There are two clamps involved 180 degrees apart. Don't get to carried away with torquing them down as the clamp bolts have been know to strip out on the back side and you have to dismantle the oil clutch to make repairs. Too loose and they will slip.....it's a fine line:) :)

Tie a string to the wrench in case it falls into the clutch assembly.

I stood on my head and got the two clamps lossened- both were somewhat loose already--anyhow I started to turn the hub and it was moving, then got a rain shower and had to quit--,

TODAYS QUESTION: My clutch is too tight and will not lock in so do I use the "righty tighty- lefty loosey" rule for the adjustment

Thank Ron
