I have a d6c with a hyster winch , could someone help me find out what model this might be. I have been all over it and didnt see any i.d. tags. I'm trying to figure out why it doesnt work. I've never been around any winch units before. If I could find out the model , I could find the corect manuals.
thanks

What is the model number of the D6C? Different units are used on the direct drive and powershift tractors.

online mauals available at
www.alliedsystems.com/pubs/pubs.htm
This will get you close you will still need to select the correct one for your application.
Allied bought out hyster many years ago.
Fortunately they have provided the manuals online.
even if you cannot find the tag. generally d2 got d2 winches d4s got d4 winches etc etc it is possible to have teh wrong winch on your tractor but most likely not. Start with the one for you tractor and look at the pictures/images and you can most likely find the correct one for you.
They all operate pretty similarly so basic info should be the same.
Have fun

The info I have is on Hyster units and would be a Hyster model #D6E. There is usually no problem identifying them because the Hyster name is cast into the winch housing.....being the 69U (1975) is an import machine (Japan) it may very well have some other brand unit. I'd check with Cat on that one.

OK, you did say it was a Hyster. Usually the model number D6E is cast also. There was a data plate attached at one time also. Sometimes the numbers are stamped at the data plate location.
Operation checks consist of hydraulic system pressure check
Control cable adjustments
Hydraulic brake cylinder adjustment
These checks assume there is not something mechanically wrong with the winch and you are following correct operating procedure.
These power control winches are not as simple as the direct drive units and if you are that unfamiliar I'd suggest you get help to sort it out.
The service manual for the D6E unit is form #2574.
You should be able to get the info and identify your unit from the service literature on the Allied Systems website.

real quick then, this winch should turn with engine runnning and in neutral right? When I move the control handle it doesnt do anything, no presure or movement. I'll look into the manual you think is right, thanks for the imput so far.

Yes, the winch drive on the powershift is a constant running pto and relys on hydraulic pump, control valve and hydraulic operated clutches to disengage the drive in order to shift the winch to forward, reverse, neautral and inching if it has that feature. Also has hydraulic assist braking which you
read on the gage.
A check of hydraulic pressure/pump operation would be a place to start.
Make sure unit has adequate oil fill and it wouldn't hurt to check/replace the oil filter cartridge.
