My new-to-me D47U has a cat hydraulic pump mounted on the rear with part number 4F6233 on it and the number 15 just below that. What kind of pressure/volume would this pump put out?

I have an old sawmill that needs 500 RPM and about 55 horsepower behind it to keep the RPM up in a log. Would this pump do the job if I matched the right hyd. motor to it? What would be the right motor?

NO, It wouldn't likely do it. (no cooler, not nearly that much capacity, old anyway)
You might run the mill direct/belt drive off the tractor PTO without the pump on there though.

First rule of power transmission is you do not get as much power at the wheels as the rated HP of an engine. You claim your sawmill needs 55 hp to operate it. I am not an expert on the tractor you have, but transmitting 55 Hp hydrostatically at the hydraulic end of your tractor seems like a push. Hopefully someone can come up with the flow and pressure calculations you are looking for, but the short answer is no. Getting that much horsepower transmitted off a PTO pump is going to be difficult without the pressure and volume unless you have a high flow system and the means of keeping it cool. Most hydraulics are used intermittently to work a blade or adjust an implement. Full-time fluid drives are a specialized engineering discipline. Good luck!

A D4 7U is rated by CAT at 43 drawbar horsepower and 48 belt horsepower. The rear mounted #41 hydraulic unit puts out 25 GPM and the maximum recommended operating pressure is 800 psi.

According to D4Doug you have the gpm but not the psi required. I also agree that an oil cooler would be necessary. I think most motor drive systems are rated at 2500psi. Sorry!

I have a Cockshutt tractor with PTO that will run the mill so I am not too disappointed. Thanks again for the info on the pump, its nice to know what I have to work with when the next bright idea pops into my head.
