I'm in the process of new hoses and couplers for the FrankenCrawler #1 tractor. I have never seen this type of coupler before, wondering if I should keep this thing close to original or just go with Pioneer style and call it good enough. Wondering if these are considered obsolete or still available? Thanks. JM

Those are neat couplers, can't say i've ever seen anything like it before either, they should have a simple o-ring for sealing purposes, if you can replace the o-ring and get them to seal up, why not use them? otherwise, a pioneer coupler should work fine, my 1941 5r d6 had a bates blade installed in the mid 50's and it has a beegee trans. drive pump with pioneer couplers installed on it. i have no idea if they were originally installed, but they look really old.

Knowing your location and the D4's - what is that galvanized thing just above the hood? A limb catcher? I Can't & Don't hear you, never saw those when I was working. Lucky we had stack to clear the hood!
If you had too, you could use a short conversion hose and still use those fittings on tractor and adapt other end to pioneer.
Project looking good!

Only two things that come to mind are do they still seal up ok and will they breakaway if something goes pare shaped or will they just tear stuff off the back of your machine

I managed to re-use all but one of those couplers. Had to really soak them good with oil, and lightly tap on them with a blunt air chisel. One had to be heated with a rosebud, and that one got tossed. I am very lucky that the previous owner had so many spare parts for this tractor and his D6 9Us. I only had to buy a few gaskets; there is so much stuff, that I need to catalog/inventory what I've picked up so far.
These fittings are pretty unique after I figured out how to uncouple them: one half has a sliding sleeve similar to a Pioneer type coupler; you slide it downward, then I used a crescent wrench to twist turn the opposite half to separate. Good thing is they can't come off accidentally for the dozed arm or toolbar beams; I wouldn't want them on the rear for pulling implements, as there is no breakaway feature. If you lost your hitchpin or broke your drawbar, you're screwed!
I've been called a renegade, but not my tractors....
The muffler gizmo is my polite gesture for the city folks that leer at me while I disk my families "downtown " Yuba City home ranch....personally I wouldn't have one, but they are on most of my tractors that work that little chunk of dirt. I even slow down from 5th gear dissing just to keep the dust at a minimum. That's what you have to do when the town grows around you.
