Hello All, I have an old cat amp gauge #8M7892, is this a 6-volt gauge or a 12-volt gauge? It was installed in an electric start pony motor battery box. Thanks for any help.

should have been 6 volt system, but I don't think the Ammeter cares, as long as it's not over about 30 volts, It probably won't have any problems.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D

My book shows it being used in 12, 24 and 32 volt systems, for a varity of different applications.

Thanks for the info Josh and CCjersey. Hey Glen, very funny! I'll remember to wear my gloves next time. Say, that 50 you picked up wasn't located at the Dunnigan eucalyptus grove off of I-5 was it? You all have a nice Day. Thanks again. Joe Giraud

Hey DozerMan,
When I put the heads on and all the other little pieces, I'll call you up for a Cat Night visit. Bring your gloves:p You are a good Cat. It was fun meeting your brother and you. Next work day bring him with you. Both of you can take turns:D LOL-glen

Hello again Guys, one other question on the gauge subject. My cat manual for 3J's from serial #'s 5001 to 8600 (the last one made) shows part #166881 for the battery box ammeter (6 Volts), it also shows the same ammeter # for the 12 volt direct electric start option for the 3J's. My cat manual for 7u's from serial #'s 1 to 27569 show the same ammeter # 166881. Can someone please see if ammeter part#166881 was replaced by part#8M7892. Thanks for your time.

8M7892 is a replacement for an older gauge, seems like it was a 6b**** but I am away from my books so I can't help.
