I bought this from a local guy who had it mounted to a Twenty Two. Size is 26.5" wide. I thought I saw one somewhere that had the bend of the punch plate going horizontal like this. My D2 and 22 parts book do not have anything like this.
It has a unique tapered shape to the bottom edge. Someone added the top ears and sweeps mounting points, of course, and added a heavy plate to the bottom at some point. The hole for the crank flange was hacked up too.
Just curious if it came from a Ten, or 15, or just what.
Thank you.

I got all the cobbled up mounts off to fit it up to my radiator better. That snout at the bottom for the hand crank was not centered properly, and the guard stuck out about an inch further than it should.
I can flush mount the bottom flange to the radiator screen bolting locations. I intend to add small plate to surround the hand crank flange and use the 1/2" bolts as mounts on the bottom too.
I need to trim about 3/4" off the top flat flange, then I will refit the top 4-hole ears.
The choke just barely fits to the outside of the guard. It tucks nicely to the side and is protected quite a bit.
I will show the progress pictures as I go.

I wonder if the guard is meant to normally be mounted at right angles and sit in a recess ??????

Paul, this guard had some prior owner cutting on it so it is hard to say just how it was supposed to fit. There are two sets of holes on either side at the top that looked like mounting ears used to bolt up. It definitely was oriented this way, but, it is a mystery just how it connected.
Rax, thank you.

Quick search on google and I found these pictures of early D4s. I have seen them before in other published books. Zoomed up, and sure enough, that sure looks like it!
Mystery solved, I would say.

Got all the mods done to the mounting points. I had to splice in some tabs at the bottom to use the crank bearing holes. The side ears were originally bolted to the guard, but I did not have enough room to use bolts as this guard is about 1" closer to the radiator than originally, so I just welded them on like the previous cobble job.
I decided it needed to be brigher than just rust colored, so I primed it with some rusty metal primer called Corroseal. It turns black when it is dry. Then I just shot it with some old yeller.
It fit up tight but I got it to squeeze on. I am suprised the D4 radiator is pretty much the same as the 22. Must be the gas vs diesel efficiency difference.
I am happy with how it turned out. Now I can rest easy when plowing into the brush.
Enjoy.

I think you're right Paul, those D4s would have a oil cooler sticking out from the radiator, so they'd need to be deeper.
Dan, that guard looks fantastic! Really sets it off I think.
