Thinking of selling my 1951 Model 212 Motor Grader

I bought this unit used for real cheap $ when I had my farm w/ 2miles of gravel roads. Has less than 2K hours on it, but the running gear bearings are loose and the engine burns a bit of oil (less when warm, so it's mostly the rings). On the positive side the rear four tires are in good used condition (ex RFOR tires that were replaced on a military vehicle headed for Iraq), fronts are okay and the pony motor is being rebuilt (threw a rod -- whole short block is being done by a flathead-motor expert who does my early Ford V-8s).

I'm in a quandry: I have one friend who maintains the unit and one who stores it. They each use it once or twice a year to maintain their gravel roads. Since I'm not using it any more, I'd like not to own it any more. The problem is that if it has some collector value, I'd like to sell it and make some money. If not, I'll probably just sell it to them at a price that recovers my costs for the tires and pony-motor rebuild.

Any thoughts out there on what it might be worth?

Saw a nice one with everything working well sell at a farm machinery auction at a Mississippi Experiment Station for $3500. It was painted orange for some reason (State machine?). The purchaser had a trucking bill on top of that from Mississippi to North Carolina.

They're not very rare, and are cumbersum to haul to shows etc. so not every old iron collector wants one. Parts are becoming harder to get, so folks that want one to use every day to make a living, probably won't be interested.

We've gotten a 12E, so our 212 is sort of an extra now.

You might offer it on this board or ACME or both and see what attention it gets before you sell it cheap. Pictures would help it.

D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D
