Hadn't visited the steam club for some time
so I arrived on the opening day
with not many people in attendance @ th@ time
I did some point n shootn with camera
Melbourne Steam Traction Engine Club History (as I remember)
About 1960 we imported the 1st Folding Gooseneck Low Loader to Australia
it was kept very bizzy carting mainly road contractors earthmoving machinery
it was also used to cart privatly owned machinery of all types
a few steam rollers & traction engines as well as steam portable were loaded & carted on this type of trailer as it has a low angle gooseneck idealy suited for carting machinery with no power to wheels or not much ground clearance
we carted a few of these machines for private people after a while my father said to these steam enthusists "Why dont you fellows get together & have a rally" they replied they have no where to hold such an event so my father said "no worries, come out to our place, we have plenty of room, and have a rally there"
so the rest is history and the Melbourne Steam Traction Engine Club was born.
A few photos of the Steam engines can be found @ our site ( photo Album 'O' for Old Steam power) @

Swishy,
Great pics.
Do they have more than one show, during the year?
Looks like a great place to visit.

Wonderful collection of photos. What a wonderful time you must have had. Were those steam trucks there toward the beginning? GWH
