Thanks for the response, good to hear from you:)

It was suggested to me (family source:rolleyes: ) that if there is no activity on the host picture sites that they might delete the material. I haven't done any revision work in some time.

Is this something you have experienced??

By any chance does imageshack have a "customer service" contact phone or email? Might be a good way to start.

Just hope I haven't wore out me welcome @ Imageshack
I have 1146 pix stored there n also 4 albums
have noticed for a time now th@ in some of the albums a few thumbnails pix don't show
just the red X
dunno ifn a rumour or wot but if a thumbnail ain't been clikd on in a while they can turn into the dreaded red X
ifn U can get th@ far into album I also clik on the red X to C ifn it will load full size image
I have no problem @ the Moment in viewing all my images but may B they want sum $$$ as I'm still free as the birds

Your files will only be deleted if they do not adhere to our Terms of Service. If you are registered, your files will be available forever. If you are not registered, any file that you upload will continue to be available if it is accessed by anyone at least once per year.

but i feel sure th@ the albums have been viewed many times in any given year

I don't think there is a problem with the number of hits in a year.

So glad I saved all the pages into my own file. If anybody needs a copy I can send 'em along to a personal email addy.

Both Old Magnet and Swishy deserve a big thank you for the effort they put into this.

For some reason unknown to me, some of the ImageShack pics you upload (maybe 1 in 50), disappear after a period of time.

I don't think it's anything to do with ImageShack deleting them, due to no-one viewing them, as I have pics that rarely get viewed, that stay there O.K. AFAIK, ImageShack never delete any of your pics, period.

I suspect the pics disappearance is related to some of ImageShacks servers biting the dust, and being replaced.

As we all know, everything runs fine in the computer world until a hard drive throws a big end, and everything you had stored on it, is gone.
I suspect that ImageShack have had occasional failures of servers .. and when that happens, they just bin the old one, and install a new one .. and your pics, that just happened to be on the hard drive of the server they binned, are landfill.

This is suitable warning to always keep a backup of your electronic files .. particularly pics or tech info you regard as important. We tend to fall into the trap in thinking that electronic storage is 100% reliable, and infallible .. when, as we should all bear in mind, it isn't .. and it has regular failures.

Electronics are simply prone to regular failure, as anyone who drives a modern vehicle or machine knows. Despite electronics performing amazing control feats, the number of vehicles broken down by the roadside is no less nowadays, than it was in the old days of Model A's & T's.

The difference now, as compared to the old days, is .. you used to get out, twitch up the offending part with wire or baler twine, and went on your merry way. Nowadays, when an electronic component spits its dummy, you're up the proverbial creek without a paddle, and you need a different kind of approach.

That approach, with computers .. involves keeping in mind, that at any time .. every important pic, file, or vital piece of info .. that you really, really need, and which is stored electronically .. can disappear in an instant, without even showing you it's gone, by doing the Lucas trick, of releasing smoke ..

Yes, I'm aware of all that and I have back up copies.
Just was not looking forward to the hassle of recovering, finding a different web posting site, posting, debugging and redirecting to a new site at this time.

That was the purpose....to keep from having to mess with the material all the time. Sure glad I'm not in the starter conversion business too
