We had the heli coils and used them in heads and lots of other places back 40 yrs. ago or more so they aren,t nothing new. The kit makes it handy for the average guy.

Yellercat,
Check aftermarket source...capsules should be half or less of that cost....and work fine.
While you have the injector pump off be sure to replace the fuel passage seal between the filter tower and the pump and at the governor end also if it does not have the blind end passage.

If the helicoil work goes south there are thick wall thread inserts available also.
What was the cost for the helicoil kit? seems I saw $300+ somewhere and also included guide bushings for drilling.

IOU cup of coffee ole' mag. The aftermkt price is indeed less than one half of that of good ole' caterpillar. Looks like there will be some extras in my toolbag now (the used ones)!

Can the used nozzles be cleaned with a proper size of drill bit? The manual shows a 'special tool' and I'm guessing its a drill bit.

That nozzle cleaning is kind of a bogus instruction. They seldom plug up and you'd be dealing with a little dinky 0.024 (#73) drill. Plus the late style nozzles are counter bored making that method obsolete with the likelihood of doing more damage then good. Best left as you say....laying in the bottom of the tool bag.

We saved 100s of nozzles at the dealer shop that were plugged just by putting them in the tester and give them a few hard fast pumps and many times they would clear themselves and start working again and give you the correct breaking pressure within the specs. You,d have to take them to a dealer or injection repair shop that has the tester. We didn,t charge to do it either as many times a couple might need replacing so they went to the parts dept. for new ones.
