The Hood Pushes Out New Style Grader

i have been on the "12" grader opening up and widing roads in the great white north, no one else wanted to running the grader that is like playing a piano. plus the grader has too much heat when working but when you stop for lunch within 10 minutes you are plowing and eating a sandwich to warm up again. this grader was built when you had to work for a living. of course when i was shaving the top off a 6 foot high wind-row, i got a little busy with all the levers and got stuck (i should have had xena as "wingman"). the slope of the road was no help and i was offical stuck. so i walked to the KINGDOM and got THE HOOD which is 19 years older then the grader which is a 99E (what year, i think it is a 1969) to give the grader a shove after i pushed the big snow banks out of the way.
this picture is history repeating itself because the THE HOOD and the "12" grader have worked together in the 1970s.

Brrrrr, looks too cold to be driving a blade around in bare feet. You need to put some chains on to warm up the tires. I have learned only one good trick when trying to get a blade unstuck and that's to put it in a high gear and try to rock it out. In the low gears the blade will spin the tires immediately but in high gear it will roll the machine. Of course, you can't abuse things too much or the clutch will be damaged. Sure looks flat up there King.

i have cheated and used cut and paste.

oh tire chains are for only when on ice, that is like tuboring the D6 9u known as THE HOOD, metal will break, LOL
in the great white north the "12" graders are known for what they will push without chains. buddy barry has a new style champion grader with fancy new tires and the "12" grader will out push it hands down. in 3 days of plowing i got stuck once and i was stuck good. if i had a "wingman" i would have walked on through.
tonight i had to wing 3 miles of road and xena had her freinds over so they got a lesson on "12" grader, these girls were working the wing, and the blade. told them to feel "the machine". the "12" grader popped a fuse so no lites and it was a full moon with northern lites so it was pedal to the metal. so these 10 year old girls felt the "12" grader and we plowed. had to backup a couple of times because someone was not listen to the grunt, LOL but we made it and in the morning will get picture of plowing blind, LOL.

Dear King, You live in a cold white world that most of us, with the help of your writings, can only be seen in our imaginations. Please keep the posts coming. Your world is fascinating.

Trying to remember the wing operation. The blade operation in mechancial and can keep your wrist in pain when you reach the limit, correct?
Thus with the lack on hydraulics, how was the wing operated? or was a hydraulic pump installed for the wings even 50 years ago?

KoO any pictures of the right side of that grand machine.

My memory of the #12 plowing snow was more taking the D6 with an V plow opening the road ( one pass ) and the grader could then widen. The grader, with V plow and wing, commonly got stuck when snow rolled back in or to much snow came over top of the plow, anyway backing up always got to a problem.

Don't let these guys bother you KOO, I've been in your shoes more than once, walking down a frozen road with a stuck 12 behind you! 12's have been known to get stuck a time or two even with chains!! I run chains on the front of mine(9K with wing), because on the frozen roads, they don't steer worth a hoot, but the chains on the front really make a difference on ice.

Replied by D4Doug on topic No intention to bother
Rick,

Speaking for myself, I was just teasing KOO a bit. I had no intention to bother his majesty. I have been stuck plenty of times and I enjoy reading how people figure out a way to get unstuck. I have run a blade pushing snow for many miles and have gotten them stuck with and without chains. With the kind of snow we have, a blade seems helpless without chains. In the great north, things are obviously different. I certainly admire KOO for his ability to keep things going in difficult conditions. Of course, I secretly lust after "The Hood".
