This is a manifold section from a Gas 50. Part of the pipe where is joins to the main exaust outlet is eroded, does anyone have any practical experiance repairing this kind of damage? I was thinking of brazing with lowfuming bronze to reduce the heat input and machining back to round. What type of packing was used between the sections?
Thanks,

No picture, but knowing what most look like. Some have machined and installed a sleeve. There is no packing they were a slip fit. Hopefully the center section is not completley eroded, most are very thin or have holes and cracks.

The people who reweld antique cast iron stoves, or the shops that weld cylinder heads and manifolds can fix that. You want to find a shop the uses preheating and post heating ovens. They also have to use gas welding and cast iron rod. You can use a high nickel arc rod on a modern head but on an old manifold the gas / cast iron rod will last better. Exhaust manifolds do not heat or cool evenly and the differential expansion will break the weld if it is not cast iron.

I believe that is the gas rod that is being used in the processes that I mentioned above.

It's the arc rod that I'm chasing.......300% elongation over nickel type rod!!!!!
I'll find out soon enough....at least it's on a Ford 800 block:)
