Your grader should have a compressor on it, plumbed into the head air box. Check the condition of the compressor, how quickly does it build air, any oil in the reservoirs? It would have to be in pretty bad shape to put oil in the intake, but it is possible, specialy on a NA engine. I could be all wet, just thinking outside the box.

hello , google says ash causes the white valve from being to hot , because it is uniform across all valves most likely the valve settings were wrong , valve are cooled 90% when the are seated properly and 10% up the valve stem , Bruce oz

It could be a case of the compressor drawing in oil laden air due to oil coming down the valve guides, also note 90% heat transfer when the valves are properly seated, if they are badly carboned up, there will be almost no heat transfer.
