I have 2 winches for D7 17A , one labeled Hyster D7D the other labeled Hyster D7N
can any one tell me the what is the difference between the two winches.
Both look identical size wise. But operationall they may differ one operate with a rod linkages, the other operate thru integral cables;)

Thank you

The D7N winch "free spooling" occurs when the drive is in neutral but you are still turning the gear train that drives the drum. Makes it a little tougher to manually pull out cable.
The D7D winch "free spooling" has a "dental clutch" that actually disconnects the drive gears from the drum making it easier to manually pull cable.

In this case which of the two winches older and why is this settle difference.

Again as I said one is oprated thru a Rod linkage more rigide. the other is operated like cable both have two handle I presume one for cluthing and the other for operation

The "N" model is the older of the two.
If it is two lever control then it does not have the "freewheel" clutch I mentioned.
Not sure why the reason for the change from direct linkage to cable.
Maybe it's to give flexibility for controls location.
Otherwise they are pretty much alike.

The controls are brake and operation (wind/neutral/unwind)
Clutching is handled by the main engine clutch.
