I knew I could sniff out a Cat even on an Island(I learned it from Willie).
Hank Tavares told me that 11 years ago his goal was to get a Cat project into the Acmoc magazine. He spent four years searching. He found a carcass of a 1925 Cat 30 on the Island of Maui where he lives and works for the loacal Cat dealer as a wrench. He spend 7 years rebuilding it. Man us main landers got it easy compaired to someone stuck on an Island with no local network of parts or other tractors to rob from. I was so impressed with Hank's drive to preserve some Cat history.

Great looking tractor, looks like the narrow seat and the wider than wide gauge undercarriage.
Thanks, Jim

OK Jim, what is a "wider than wide gauge" undercarriage? I do agree that it is a heck of a nice looking Thirty. Congrats to the owner for his hard work and beautiful results! GWH

My mistake George, I thought it looked like it was spaced out wider than a normal wide gauge Thirty. I had to go look at mine and it looks like the same spacing Maybe the hard bar instead of front spring threw me. Here are a couple pictures, sorry about the quality it's about 2 below here now and the camera fogged over.

Jim, it was very kind and thoughtful of you to go out into the severe cold to take photos. You have a good looking Thirty. I think it is possible that the track frames look wider because the pads are narrow and don't hide the fact that the track frames are so far apart. Well, that is a potential explanation, and the best I can come up with. Hope you warm up soon! GWH

I was stationed in HI from 81-83, din't know there was a 30 there. But then I wasn't into the CATs then. Although I've always loved them, my CB handle in 76 was the Boone Bulldozer. I learned how to fly when in HI and didn't see any from the air either. Nice looking 30. That is the next tractor I want to get. John
