Hello,
Finally got my D4D LGP dozer up and pushing. Seems like a great machine,
just in time to help me with the new arrival a D5 LGP that I found in
Detroit, semi-abandoned and partially stripped. The D5 has no radiator
or hood. Its the 6R model since its a LGP. The D5 has the 3306 engine
without turbo. Somewhere I read that the D5 of this era was an updated
D6B dozer. If anyone has any experience with either of these machines
or parts for the D5 I am very grateful and want to get the D5 up and goiing
like the D4. You got to love the CATS. Although I am using a Komatsu
PC 300 LC-3 excavator which is awesome too. <a href="This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it." target="_blank">This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Hi James,
Lots of D5 models were produced and yes there are a lot of mechanical parts (mostly power train) that interchange between the D6U, D6B and D5 units. The 3306 engine was a big improvement over the D333.
The 6R model was produced in France, along with other models assembled all over the world.
I don't have a source for parts but I'm sure they are out there.
Good luck on getting your unit operational.

How was the 3306 engine an improvement over the D333. I have a couple
of 3304 engines and a couple of D330 engines, the four cylinder version
of the above engines. Was the 3304 an improvement over the D330?

Depends on which engine you have.....the D330 and D333 are pretty much the same except for the extra cylinders
The D330a and D333a were pretty famous for spun bearings, usually rods and cracking heads, especially on the loaders.
The D330b and D333b received water pump and cylinder head changes but still had problems.
The D330c and D333c received water pump changes again along with the change in bore from 4-1/2 in. to 4-3/4 in. and was almost a 3304 or 3306.
They naturally got more reliable as the models evolved with the 3000 series being a very reliable engine.
