Hi I would like to know if it is possible to remove the centre out of the pump assembly body if so how to do it as I do not have the tool for it. I only need the body to replace one on the D397. Thanks

Why would you want to do that? There is a string of about eight or more equivalent to 8M3279 10mm pumps for the 5-3/4" bore. They are assembled barrels and plungers in the housing but I've never bothered to take them apart. Maybe edb can help out here if you must.

Looks like the plunger is broken off and stuck in the housing. The plunger and housing are a matched set and shouldnt be interchanged. Best to find another pump unit.

Yes I have the plunger and housing off the engine but the body has a rust hole in it, you can buy the unit of the net but they seem to thick that it has to go into space to be shipped to NZ$$$$$ thanks.

Had time to day and pulled the fuel injection pump apart just held the end in the lathe chuck not good for the retainer nut. I would like to know the number for the service tool to remove this part please so I can start to look on the net to try and find one. Thanks

never had to pull one apart before.
In all the ones I ever tested and/or cleaned I only ever had one with a split in two delivery valve and one with a ruined delivery valve return spring, a new Pump Grp. was supplied/fitted.

I do not know of a tool for this nut.
There may be one amongst the ones at The Dealer.
I have a hazy recollection of someone trying to get one apart and the nut was beyond comprehension of tightness--if they even succeeded.
Also it could be that the dowel in the side of the unit does only align the barrel but may also sneakily hold the barrel too and may be hardened to stop removal/dismantling.

I have a Pump assem here--different P/No to what you want--I have tried my 8S2243 that fits most Fuel System splined nuts socket, but the pump one is larger.
There is a 2H7479 socket for the early Glow plug capsule injector hold in nut but I think it is smaller still to the 8S2243.

The pump nut roughly measures 27mm across the outer spline diameter. I measured the Cap Nut spline on the Flat Seat Injectors and it too is 27MM OD the 51 valleys spline count is the same on both the Pump Nut and the Injector Cap.

The 7B2591 Tee Wrench that fits the Flat Seat Inj. Cap is --because of the length of the wrench shank and the fact it is not designed for very tight nuts is maybe why the pump nut could not be undone.

I think an Apprentice was trying to dismantle one of the Forged Body Pumps for a School Model Project--he finished up grinding a wedge out of the unit and used it for his model that way--was a better sectionized model view anyway when highlight painted.

Sorry I cannot help further. I was hoping Bill Walter may have been able to shed some further light on this.

If you were to get desperate you could bore a 27MM dia. hole in a suitable shaped piece of 1/4" or 5/16" plate, slip it over the pump nut, and 4 spot tack weld it to the nut and see what happens--it is inside so will not be seen after you grind off the tacks.
