I have started working on my 1955 D2 (5U16693). It needs the steering clutches and brakes repaired or replaced. In preparation for this we have removed the DoMore loader from the tractor and found that the Number 44 hydraulic control unit (s/n 9W7404) has its filter coated with what looks like pieces of rubber, probably from the deteriorated hydraulic hoses. We are going to replace all the hoses when it goes back together.
My problem is that the filter’s part number is 7F7238 and Cat is asking $75.00 for a new one and I will probably replace it at once or twice to make sure all the deteriorated hose pieces are cleaned out. Napa lists one that is cheaper for the number 44 but only for the 9W serial numbers from 1 to 363. Are the filters the same for all the 9W series of hydraulic control units?
Also would someone have the part number for the large gasket that seals the case of the number 44 control unit?
Thanks for any assistance,
Clem

Cat has us over a barrel on the filter:rolleyes:
Have not been successful and finding an interchange for the cartridge.
The earlier units used the same filter as was used in the fuel filter tower but had different mounting hardware then the later units.
The cover gasket is a 4F4217.

I thought someone had listed a baldwin replacement a few years ago, I should have wrote it down.

CAT30-
This is a link to the other site. It has some solutions on it. I had to settle for the CAT dealer for my filter. I looked pretty hard for it. The same sort of post was on this site at the same time, but the board changed in the meantime and it may be archived.
Good Luck and Happy Hunting...If you find another source, post it.

This may not be of much help but I can get the number to come up. Says it is obsolete. maybe they have some on the shelf.
