LeT H3 rooter.

I got big plans for this rooter. Hope to mount it on back of the HO to the swing arm and drawbar using the left side CCU winch to raise it. :smash:

The HO has a 14A blade on it but no extra roller like the 14A. Hopefully it won't be so nose heavy with a counter weight and be easier to grade with.

Hi, Oil Slick.
NICE find. Just remember when you come to mount it on the HO that those back ends were before they started building them to take rear-mounted rippers. It may be worth thinking about putting in a triangular link from the drawbar pull point in under the tractor back the bottom of your ripper mounts like the Cat 941 - 951 track loaders had. I'd guess that somebody on here will have a photo of that arrangement from an operation and maintenance manual.

I'll be interested to see the finished product. O.S.D.B.S - B.L.E.G.M.G (If this does not compute, ask and I will explain. The original read: P.P.D.B.S - B.L.E.G.M.G.)

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Hey OilSlick,

Incorporate a Push Block in your design. If ripping gets to difficult, or I just want to Push you around, make sure there is a push block on the ass end. Heck, we might need help double pushing the 660... So put that design cap on... Or should I say, draw it with your foot on your shop floor... Hahaha... Heck your good at this stuff... It'll be a , '50, '51, '52, '53, '54, ripping McMobile....

Thank you Deas, it would be easier if the draw bar was strait but since they curve down by the finals means it going to stretch. I was thinking of using large truck U bolts that can go around the draw bar swing frame to the draw bar. Doing this in the center and two edges. I'll be able to tighten the heck out of the u bolts so the stretch is out.

Poops, no push block, you bully me enough as it is. Although I'm going to probably have to mount the pulley block to the top of the FOPS for the leverage points to work out. This will set the rippers about 6-7 feet away from the tracks so the tractor is not on the big chunks of clay that break up. Plus it will raise up over the CCU. Making a serious safety hazard for spectators if left up.

My reason for wanting to do this is the few jobs I get have lots of clay the after I get down a couple feet. I can't transport the pull ripper and D8 simotaniously.

It will be interesting to follow the design and fabrication phase of this project. It'll be the only High Output D8 with a LeTourneau direct mount, cable ripper in existence!

Looking forward to the . . . rest of the story!

Pete.

why dont you just get a ripper off of a a older d7/8 that have the 2 cylinders that lift straight up and down (hinge ripper) or a ripper off of a d5/d6hxl
it would be smaller and easier and lighter than trying to mount that one. ( just my 2 cent and i dont like to work as hard as it will be to mount that one)

Pardon me for this, but why not leave it as is? I may be considered on OLD fuddy-duddy but I like the towed ripper...

Walt, can't transport the pull rooter and D8 at the same time.

C13, I need something heavy so it will sink in the ground. Kelly posted before the H3 weights about 7,500 hopefully it will weight about 5,000 after stripped down.

Mike,

Why not bid to include both moves in your price? You will be going to a lot of work with what you describe and I am not sure you will like the outcome of that thing hanging off the back. I would be hesitant to hang that much weight off the back without some consideration of the design of the bearings, transmission casting, etc. in that age tractor. It would not look pretty when you snag a rock ledge and pull the rear out of the transmission case.

I once worked for a guy who smugly built a seven or eight foot wide bucket for his Mitsubishi excavator so he could load a set of belly dumps with only two passes per trailer. I ran the machine all morning but he got on it right after lunch and put me on the loader. An hour later, I looked over and he had snapped off the boom down at the hinge point on the platform! He was lucky as the boom fell away from the cab instead of trapping him in it! I was soooooooooooooo glad I was not still operating it!

You do some great work with your creations but one must be careful playing Rube Goldberg sometimes. Just sayin'.
