More

I have become the recipient of a D4. I need information on how to find the model number. I found, cast on the left side of the engine block 6F3787. I am trying to verify if this is the model number. Also, if anyone has information where I can fine the serial number, it would certainly be helpful. I have no operation or maintenance manual so I hope I can fine same. Any help would be appreciated.

First off you need to find out what you have? ser. no.? every seires is diff and in each of those there are many changes, the D4 was most change tractor of any in its run so when you get a book make sure it covers your ser. no. not just the seires. They are always on EBay fairly cheap and easy to find D4 books. There are some on right now.

On my D42T there is also a brass tag with identical stamping on the starting engine left side right above the starting pionion lever. It is from when the tractor was taken to the Granite City Engineer Depot for work. They tagged the main and the starting engine identically. My winches cover the rear tractor stamp. Someday I will see what it is.
