I was looking thru my cat ten photo archive book and all of the caterpillar tens have nothing over the air pipe leading to the air filter. I guess that was standard, not having a "pre-cleaner"? I think jim zimmerman makes reproduction pre-filter (duck bill) for the cat ten, however were they standard on these machines, an option, or just offered with the later machines and people just put them on tens? I can't find any pre cleaners in my parts books.

Catmatt,
The duck bill pre cleaners are listed in the tractor options book for the TEN and FIFTEEN.

Thanks for the info pat. Can anyone explain why none of the cat tens in the photo archive book have them?

The duckbill is in the parts books but its in the bach with optional parts, It was am option that was used in the orchards to keep the leaves and twigs out not like we use to keep rain out when a farmer back then made such a purchase as bis as a tractor he tucked it in the barn everynite

Thanks for the response willie. After looking thru the photo archive book, I thought that it must be an option. When I looked in the parts book, i was looking at the diagrams which show the whole intake system from the carb to the pipe that sticks into the air with nothing attached. Actually, some of the machines don't even have the stack in the air, and the hole in the firewall is covered. I believe Pat's machine is configured like that?

The options boook for the 10 and 7C15 also lists the mushroom cap style pre-cleaner (2B314) for the 10. I believe that the pre-cleaner was installed at the dealer at the request of the buyer. By the looks of the pictures in the archives book most buyers didn't get them. - Wally
