Thanks, i miss spoke i should have said turbo. I appreciate the info.
Well i tried to get that pulley off the crank today but it snapped the bolt in the puller. I will try some heat and a bigger puller tomorrow. I guess after 40+ years it's kindof made on there.

I was just wondering if any of you had, or knew of any crankshaft pulleys. I can't get that pulley off and was thinking about cutting it off. I even had a cat mechanic come over and he struck out too. He did manage to knock a chunk off the pulley, but i could fix that if i could get it off. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

How big is the puller? I went through this gathering up some old pulleys for D318Marine to try on his boat's engine so he could add an alternator. (marine engine didn't ever have a crankshaft pulley) I sent him a rusty one off a D333 out of a 44A tractor ecause it has a longer hub than the D318 pulley which is needed to clear the cooling circuit pump drive housing.
We were trying to remove the pulley off a D318 and didn't have any luck the first go with the homemade puller (1" plate with 2 holes as needed for bolting to the pulley and a 7/8" NC screw through the center hole/welded on nut). Sprayed it down with ZEP and let it sit a few days and then came back with the puller modified to catch 4 3/8" bolts into the crankshaft pulley instead of 2 and a big tip on the torch to heat the hub and we got it.
A 1 inch air wrench helps to turn it without having to lock up the engine against turning somehow.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D

Did anyone try using the correct tools for the job?
Cat recommends the 8B7548 Push Puller
8B 7550 Legs
8B7557 Adapters
5F7352 Washer
5F7360 screw
8B7560 Step Plate
6F25 pump
7F9540 Hydraulic cylinder/puller (hollow 30 ton)
I have OTC and Simplex equivalents and have no problem pulling pulleys.
Sometimes that home built stuff just doesn't cut it. Especially trying to pull with threads instead of hydraulic power.

As OM said you need a good heavy puller for the job to do it right. At the shop many times when I removed one it took a sharp blow with a heavy hammer on the end of the center bolt to pop it off.

I needed a new engine front support for my D6b last summer. I think Regal did not have any in stock. They suggested I try Blumaq for a number of parts they didn't have. Blumaq is a Spanish company, but has an office in Miami. Even parts that were in Europe arrived within a few days and the prices were comparable to Regal, and lower in some cases. Shipping was very reasonable. I was very impressed with them. Their website is not very good, so the best way to get them is to call them at (305) 593-1040. They even had parts that both Cat and Regal showed as unavailable.

Thanks again for the info. I finally got it off today. I made a puller that i could use my ram on, and with 28 tons it finally came off.
